Gujarat Literature Festival

Gujarat’s first, largest, and most popular literature festival

GLF is one of the largest events celebrating Gujarat’s literature, culture, and identity. In its ten-year journey, this free festival, with mainly youth participation, has seen nine editions in two cities, Ahmedabad and Vadodara, comprising more than 700 events with over 1,500 speakers and performers. GLF has emerged as the best event to connect with thousands of fans and followers, mainly from Gujarat, the majority of whom are under 40 years of age, with the rest from influential segments of society.

Many Non-Resident Gujaratis (NRGs) and foreign nationals also participate in the festival. From the first season itself, GLF emerged as the largest literary festival in Gujarat. It was the first-ever literature festival to be held in Gujarat and is the largest Gujarati and non-Gujarati literary event in the state. Generally, literary events in Gujarat were attended only by senior citizens, but over the years, GLF has reversed that trend and made literature festivals a favorite event for the youth.

In a typical winter edition, GLF sees participation from between 10,000 to 20,000 unique participants, with total footfalls crossing one lakh. Whenever livestreamed, it was viewed in dozens of countries by thousands of viewers. GLF is a trailblazer as it is the first literary event of scale that actually paid money to writers, poets, performers, and artists to speak. This was a reversal of the trend in Gujarat, where writers were not getting many forums to speak and then getting paid for speaking!

GLF has inspired dozens of literary activities and ‘GLF-type’ debates in schools and colleges across the state.
